Home / Where We Work / Ethiopia / Sustainable Cooking Fuel for Bambasi Refugee Camp

Dates: April–September 2017

Funder: Manitoba Council for International Cooperation, Canadian Lutheran World Relief

Implementing partner: Lutheran World Federation Ethiopia

Expected number of beneficiaries: 185 people

To reduce the vulnerability of South Sudanese refugees living in Bambasi Refugee Camp, CLWR will increase access to sustainable cooking fuel through the construction of 19 biogas converters and stoves. Technical training on the use of biogas stoves will be provided in the refugee camp and in the surrounding community.

Shifting the primary fuel source from firewood to biogas will reduce the costs of fuel for families, protect the natural environment and reduce the vulnerability of women and girls who often have to travel long distances to obtain firewood.
